Another classic from the Wholly Handwoven Household collection.

This 100% linen rug is hand-dyed to create the gradation effect and handwoven in rya technique. Linen rya are historically uncommon, as they were traditionally used as bedspreads or instead of animal skins for warmth. Linen is excellent at soaking up water, and this rug works beautifully as a bathmat or a welcome mat, but works well anywhere you might want a handwoven pop of color.

The design is inspired by the long use of 'frame' motifs in rya rugs, but with a modern ombré twist.

This rug measures 89 x 57 cm (35 x 22.5 inches).

It is machine washable, and should be tumble dried on low heat (30 celcius) for the fluffiest result. The linen and the color will soften slightly with every wash.

These rugs are made to order in my studio, so please allow 2 weeks from order date for production, after which the rug will be shipped immediately. Average shipping times to various countries can be estimated upon request.

American weaver in Sweden with an interest in the technical aspects of the craft.

Most of my current work falls under the concept of a "wholly handwoven household" [helhandvävt hushåll]. These are workhorse textiles, brukstextilier, meant to not only be used but to be dirtied or used until threadbare: dishrags, aprons, bathmats. They are objects most of us switched out for machine-woven long ago.

I want both the object and the process to be freed from their preciousness.

Grounded in the idea that using handmade textiles is the best way to show respect to both the work and the craftswoman, the Wholly Handwoven Household is a collection of handwoven, luxurious objects made to be sullied and worn.

I am a founding member of Studio Supersju, an ateljé established in 2016. We are seven weavers devoted to the future of weaving in Sweden.
